The Estufa Fria is one of those attractions in Lisbon that might find itself a little bit in the shadow of the classical tram 28 and the monastery of Jeronimos, but truly worth a visit. Since we did not visit it before we had already been living in the city for quite some time, we found ourselves wondering why we had not made a visit before. It’s like a green oasis in the middle of the buzzling city centre, and a great escape from the summer heat. The Estufa Fria is divided into three areas which each includes different kind of vegetation, The Cold House, The Hot House and The Sweet House, the last one with an impressive collection of cactuses. Amongst the plants you will also find waterfalls, small lakes, as well as benches where you can enjoy some tranquillity time or maybe read a book.
